Thank you so much for the research into my family history, I was fascinated and delighted with the results.

I was particularly interested in my Grandad's service in the first world war. You found that he had worked for the Duke of St Albans on the Bestwood Estate and then gone to France as a farrier (or shoeing smith) with the Royal Horse Artillery.

I've always thought of myself as something of a Luddite so I was pleased to learn that I'm descended from many generations of framework knitters.
The most striking aspect of your research shows how close and tight knit the community was. Generations of both families all lived within a couple of miles of each other in the Arnold and Daybrook area. One part of Arnold was apparently known as 'top of town', and I can remember my Grandma using that expression, though I never quite knew what she meant.

Also you came across several names that were familiar to me from school days. In such a small community I imagine that some of my old school mates were actually distant relations.

Your research is beautifully presented, both in book form and also the family tree which you had framed.

Jonathan's discoveries, as he traced generations of my father's maternal line, are fascinating, absorbing and my wonderful book brings my ancestors to life.

The book itself is beautiful quality and I love the way the history is laid out, the stories of each generation of my family in separate chapters, complete with photographs, snippets of birth, death certificates etc....

What was really unexpected, for me, was the emotion I felt, as I read. Jonathan's skill lies not only in his immaculate research but also the way he writes with such depth of feeling for his subjects, real people who led real, often harsh lives.

Such an emotional read, I will treasure my book for ever and it will be passed down to future generations with love.
